Your Linear issues, one click from the menu bar

The TimeToBuild menu bar app puts your Linear issues in the macOS menu bar. One click on the menu bar icon opens a popover with your issues, sorted by status first (In Progress, then Todo, then Backlog, then In Review) and by priority within each status group. It is a native macOS app, not a browser tab.

What does Menubar app do?

  • Lives in the macOS menu bar near the clock, with no Dock icon to hunt for.
  • Opens a popover of your Linear issues with a single click.
  • Sorts issues by status first (In Progress, Todo, Backlog, In Review), then by priority within each status group.
  • Syncs with Linear in the background so the list is current when you open it.
  • Runs natively on macOS 14 (Sonoma) or later, on Apple Silicon and Intel Macs.

How it works

  1. 1

    Install and connect Linear

Download the app, drag it to Applications, and sign in to your Linear workspace on first launch. The icon then sits in your menu bar.

  2. 2

    Click the menu bar icon

One click opens the popover. Your assigned issues appear immediately, grouped by status with the work you are actively doing at the top.

  3. 3

Open an issue or act on it

Click any issue to see its detail, change its status, or jump to it in Linear. Close the popover and it tucks back into the menu bar.

Menubar app FAQ

How are issues sorted in the popover?

Issues are grouped by status first, in the order In Progress, then Todo, then Backlog, then In Review. Within each status group they are ordered by priority, with higher priority issues first. This means the work you are actively doing sits at the top of the list, and lower priority backlog items sit at the bottom. Status matching is case insensitive and falls back to the Linear workflow state type for custom workflows.

Does TimeToBuild have a Dock icon or a main window?

No. TimeToBuild is a menu bar app, so it lives in the macOS menu bar near the clock rather than in the Dock. There is no large main window to manage. You click the menu bar icon to open a compact popover of your issues, and click away to dismiss it. You can also press the global shortcut to open a modal from any app without touching the menu bar at all.

Which macOS versions are supported?

TimeToBuild runs on macOS 14 (Sonoma) or later. It is a native macOS app built for both Apple Silicon and Intel Macs. It is not a web wrapper or a browser extension, so it feels like a normal Mac app and stays out of your way in the menu bar until you need it.
