One line on what changed, generated as you look

AI summaries turn the recent activity on a Linear issue into a short, readable summary. TimeToBuild generates a one-line summary and a more detailed version of what changed, so you can catch up on an issue at a glance. Summaries are generated when an issue loads and regenerated when its status changes.

What does AI summaries do?

  • Summarizes the recent activity on an issue into one readable line.
  • Offers a more detailed summary when you want the fuller picture.
  • Generates the summary automatically when an issue loads.
  • Regenerates the summary when the issue status changes, so it stays current.
  • Uses your own AI provider key, so requests go from your Mac to the provider you choose.

How it works

  1. 1

    Set up an AI provider

Add a provider key in Settings. Summaries use that key to call your chosen AI provider directly from your Mac.

  2. 2

    Open an issue

When an issue loads, TimeToBuild generates a one-line summary of what recently changed, with a detailed version available.

  3. 3

    Return after a status change

When the issue moves to a new status, the summary regenerates so it reflects the latest activity rather than an old state.

AI summaries FAQ

When are AI summaries generated?

A summary is generated automatically when an issue loads, so you see a fresh readout of recent activity as soon as you open it. It is regenerated when the issue status changes, which is usually the moment the summary would otherwise go stale. This on-load and on-status-change timing means you rarely have to ask for a summary manually. It is there when you open the issue, and it refreshes at the point where something meaningful has moved.

What is the difference between the one-line and detailed summary?

The one-line summary is a quick headline of what changed, meant to be read at a glance while scanning your issues. The detailed summary expands on that with more of the context: who did what, what moved, and what is still pending. You reach for the one-liner when triaging quickly and the detailed version when you are about to pick up the issue and need the fuller story before you dive in.

Whose AI is used to generate summaries?

Summaries use your own AI provider key. You choose the provider in Settings, and requests go directly from your Mac to that provider. TimeToBuild does not run its own summary service in the middle, so your issue content is sent only to the provider you have configured. If you have not set up a provider, summaries are simply not generated, and the rest of the app works as normal.
